AA wins Battle of the Brains Competition

Students from Amelia Academy recently competed and won against Richmond's Thomas Jefferson High School in the opening round of the region's Battle of the Brains competition. The competition was held at the studios of WTVR Channel 6 in Richmond and will be broadcast on Saturday, October 3, at 10:00 a.m.

Sarah Flippin, Nathan Condrey, Evie Painter, and Tucker Lamb represented the Academy. Other team members who attended as alternates were: Nathan Baker, Joshua Hall, Alexandra Pemberton, and Jack Owens.

More than 100 schools try out for participation in the televised academic quiz show. To qualify for the show, the Academy's team took a written examination last spring at James River High School.

The Battle of the Brains competition was created in 1975 by Meadowbrook High School as a fund raiser. Other schools in central Virginia joined in the competition, which has aired on local television stations since 1978.

The Amelia Academy team will compete in the next round on Friday, October 2, at WTVR studios.
