DAR Essay Winners

2011, Mar 21 – The James Allen Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors an essay contest for students in grades four through twelve. For this year, the fourth-grade topic was “How I Respect the Flag of the United States of America.” Winners from Amelia Academy were Tyler G. (1st place), Isaac G. (2nd place), and Ivy F. (3rd place).
The topic for grades five through eight was “Memoirs of Paul Revere.” Winners were fifth grade - Josh W. (1st place), Naomi P. (2nd place), Hunter H. (3rd place); sixth grade - Corbin H. (1st place), Seth Z. (2nd place), Payton P. (3rd place); seventh grade - Vance A. (2nd place), Kayla F. (3rd place); eighth grade - Andrew C. (1st place), Lydia P. (2nd place).
Grades nine through twelve wrote about “Lessons from Christopher Columbus’s Life.” Winners from Amelia Academy were Jack O. (1st place), Evie P. (2nd place), and Jan Z. and Alex R. (tied for 3rd place).

Josh W. placed first from the fifth grade in the essay contest sponsored by the James Allen Chapter. His essay was then forwarded to the district competition, where he placed second among the fifth graders who competed.
