Amelia Academy Students Recognized in AVA Forensics Competition
Amelia Academy hosted the Association of Virginia Academies Forensic Meet on March 31. More than 200 students from the member schools participated in the event, which included categories ranging from original speeches to poems and prose presentations to monologues and storytelling.
A highlight of the day’s program included an improvisation program based in part on the television program, “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” “After all the preparation for the competition, the students obviously enjoyed the impromptu performances,” said event co-sponsor, Kimberly House, the director of the Academy’s drama guild.
Several Academy students placed in their individual categories. Holly S. placed first in sight reading. Taylor R. placed second in serious oral interpretation, and Eric W. placed second in extemporaneous speaking. Receiving fourth place award were: Nina B., extemporaneous speaking; Laura K., original oratory; Tucker L., humorous prose; Lydia P., serious poetry; and Clay S., after dinner speaking.
