Second Grade Mummifies Chicken
Second graders at Amelia Academy mummified a chicken as part of their study of Ancient Egypt. They used salt to dry the chicken, and then preserved it with oil and spices before wrapping it in cloth strips. Students also created a travel scrapbook about their “travel” around ancient Egypt, learned to write in hieroglyphics, and made pyramids. The culmination of the study was a delicious Egyptian feast featuring foods that archeologists believe were staple foods of the time.
