Amelia Academy JV Girls Volleyball Win Conference Championship

2011, Oct 31 – The JV girls volleyball team has achieved a milestone as they were named Virginia Commonwealth Conference champion earlier this week. The team is looking forward to competing in the VCC tournament to be held this week, semi-finals at Amelia Academy on Wednesday and finals at Fuqua School in Farmville.

More than fulfilling high expectations after a winning season last year, the JV girls finished the season with a 17-1 record. Rickylyn C. led in scoring with an impressive 93 percent serving average. She also had 47 aces, 78 assists, and 46 kills. Autumn M. finished the season with a 90 percent serving average, 55 aces, and 80 kills. Chelsea D. also contributed leading statistics, including 28 aces, 67 assists, and 72 kills.  The entire team is applauded for their teamwork and devotion to making this season so successful.

The Academy’s volleyball program, led by head coach Kelly Roach and assistant coach Belinda Farnham, has expanded in recent years from one team to three teams.  The steady development of players under their guidance is instrumental in winning the regular season championship.

“These ladies are very determined and know how to work as a team. We’ve never been more proud,” said Coach Roach, commenting on the team’s achievements.
