AA JV Girls Win Conference Tournament Title
Volleyball Season Wrap-up
2011, Nov 7 – After coming in first during their overall season, Amelia Academy’s JV girls volleyball team brought home the Virginia Commonwealth Conference tournament championship. The tournament was held on November 5 at the Fuqua School in Farmville.
During the match, Amelia fell behind in the first set with Fuqua leading 23 to 15. The resilient Lady Patriots came back to win the set 28 to 26. The score in the second and final set of the championship game was 25 to 14 giving Amelia Academy an extraordinary 19-1 record for the season.
Autumn M. led in serving with an impressive 100 percent serving accuracy and five aces. She added one assist and three kills to the team stats. Casey V. also had 100 percent serving accuracy. Chelsea D. and Sam S. led the team in kills with five each. Chelsea also added an assist, and Sam added one ace. Rickylyn C. contributed two aces, five assists and two kills. Rounding out the stats was Brett G. with one ace and one kill.
Mrs. Dallas Lewis, the Academy’s athletic director, said of the match, “It was absolutely fantastic. It was nice to see the comeback kids pull it out. They played on the championship level that they played on all year.”

During the awards ceremony, the Academy’s varsity volleyball team captain, senior Lauren V., was named All-Conference and All-Academic for the season.

The first round of the JV VCC volleyball tournament started Wednesday, November 2, when the Amelia Academy Lady Patriots were host to the visiting Richmond Christian Lady Warriors. Sophomore Alyssa P. is getting ready to bump the ball for the Lady Patriots in this 2-0 win. On Saturday, they defeated Fuqua School for the VCC JV Championship at Fuqua School.

On Wednesday, November 2, the Amelia Academy JV Lady Patriots played the Richmond Christian Lady Warriors in the first round of the JV VCC volleyball tournament. The JV Lady Patriots won this match and travelled Saturday to Fuqua School to face Fuqua in the final round of the VCC JV Volleyball Tournament. The Patriots were 19-1 for the season.

On Monday, October 31, the Amelia Academy Varsity Lady Patriots had a play-in game against the Lady Knights from Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot. Pictured is junior Darlene H. setting the ball. The Lady Patriots won this contest in four sets.
