Lee Harrison Visits Civics Class at Amelia Academy
2012, Jan 9 – Commonwealth’s Attorney Lee Harrison spoke to Amelia Academy’s eighth grade students in Mrs. Shanaberger’s civics class on January 4. The students have been learning about local government and Amelia’s elected officials.
Mr. Harrison shared information about his job as a prosecutor. He spoke about the rules he has to follow and his work alongside law enforcement officials. He also gave them a firsthand account of the different levels of our local court system.
Mrs. Shanaberger said, “It is always great to have people from the community visit the classroom and bring the subject matter to life. Mr. Harrison fielded the questions from the children and told them the importance of planning for their future and making good choices. My students are eager to visit the courthouse and see him in action.”
Mr. Harrison encouraged the students to attend college and start planning now while they are in the eighth grade. He spoke of his experiences at Virginia Military Institute and his participation on the track team. He gave the students practical ideas to help them begin thinking about their futures.
