Lady Patriots Continue Winning Streak

2012, Jan 30 – The Lady Patriots of Amelia Academy continued their winning ways by entering the second half of their season with three victories last week. Amelia Academy is now 13-4 overall and 9-0 in the VCC and currently ranked second in the Division III state poll.

On Tuesday night, the Lady Patriots used their full court pressure defense to jump out to an early 31-8 lead over Kenston Forest. The Kavaliers would never recover and trailed 54-14 at half before losing 99-35.

Amara E. led all scorers with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 steals. Lauren V. had 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Megan J. had 21 points, 9 assists and 5 steals. Kristyn C. was also in double figures with 10 points.

On Thursday night, Amelia Academy traveled to Southampton Academy to take on the then-second place Raiders. Once again, the full court pressure defense proved to be too much to handle as the Lady Patriots jumped out to a 24-4 lead en route to a halftime margin of 46-12. However, the Lady Patriots’ offense would cool off in the second half as they would total only 23 points in the half. Amelia Academy would go on to defeat Southampton Academy 69-38.

Lauren led the Lady Patriots with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Megan had 19 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Amara, plagued with foul trouble, would add 9 points. Darlene H. and Chelsea D. scored 8 points each.

On Saturday, Amelia Academy traveled to Denbigh Baptist for a non-conference match up. The Lady Patriots would lead 39-22 at half. The offensive fireworks would pick up in the second half as Amelia Academy would score 52 points and run away with a 91-39 victory.

Amara led the way with 23 points. Lauren had 19 points and 9 rebounds. Megan recorded a double-double with 17 points and 16 assists. Kristyn had 11 points and Chelsea had 10 points. Darlene added 7 points, 5 assists and 4 steals.

The Lady Patriots will travel to Kenston Forest on Tuesday before hosting Blessed Sacrament on Thursday.
