Long Branch Petting Zoo Visits Amelia Academy
The front lawn of Amelia Academy resounded with the sounds of the farm on April 22 when the Long Branch Petting Zoo visited Amelia Academy. The event was a fundraiser for the Science Club whose sponsor is science teacher Neillie Midkiff.
Students in grades prekindergarten through fourth grade and their teachers enjoyed interacting with goats, a miniature horse, a pig, sheep, ducks, a llama, and a spirited alpaca. “Even though we are a rural county, some of the children have little hands-on experience with animals. It is an invaluable learning tool for them,” said Ms. Midkiff.
Long Branch Petting Zoo is owned by Richard and Sylvia May of Amelia, whose son Trevor is a junior at the Academy. The mobile zoo serves birthday parties, fairs, daycare and school as well as church functions.
