Amelia Academy in the Spotlight

During the unseasonably warm afternoons since school started, the Amelia Academy girls JV volleyball team has successfully withstood the heat of the gym and their competitors. With a 7-0 record, the JV Lady Patriots are known as “the team to beat” in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference (VCC).

Their record reflects the number of matches they have won, but the team has also only lost two out of the 21 sets they have played this season. Team parent Kelly Morris recently said after the team’s win over Kenston Forest School, “They are phenomenal to watch.”

Both fans and coaches have observed how well the girls play together. “They play with heart and determination. On the court, they are six girls but one player,” said assistant coach Belinda Farnham. In summing up the program, Coach Kelly Roach said, “We’ve grown from one team four years ago to three teams this year. It has been a joy to work with the girls as they learn how successful they can be.”
